According to city data, an average of 113 people die in NYC each year from heat associated causes. Seniors, people with disabilities and people without access to air conditioning are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illness and death. Yet despite knowing the dangers - and despite the fact that cooling centers are not open during the pandemic - the city was slow in getting vulnerable members of our community access to air conditioning.
